Using Anchor Text In Your Linking Strategy

How important is anchor text when it comes to your linking strategy and back-links?
When you’re planning your linking strategy it is absolutely crucial to place a high importance on anchor text. The algorithms of search engines like Google heavily weigh back-links on a website. When you’re putting together your linking strategy, make sure that other sites are linking to you using relative keywords in the anchor text.
Sites who link to you will often use your company name as anchor text. Although it’s nice to get your company name advertised, this isn’t ideal as it doesn’t provide any information on your company’s offerings. Many companies already rank very well in searches that include their brand name as it is, so this really isn’t necessary at all.
For example let’s use a fake company, “ABC Electrical Services” as a demonstration.
Most websites will link using the first part of the company name, “ABC”, to link. This isn’t bad but it’s definitely not great, either. It fails to provide any information on what the company actually offers in terms of products or services and it doesn’t give any context. Including the keywords “electrical” or “electrical services” to the link will help increase traffic that otherwise may not have ever occured.
So, rather than linking with just “ABC”, using keywords like “ABC Electrical” or “ABC Electrical Services” can be very beneficial to driving business online. This actually helps visitors get an idea of what you offer rather than just telling people your company name without any idea of what products and/or services you offer.
